Bicycle, bicycle, I want to ride my bicycle...
Fri 5th April 2013The organisers aren’t sure the famous Queen Song will be in Haywards Heath Town Band’s repertoire when they play off the riders in the third Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride on 21st April, but a rousing send off is assured as UK Discus Champ, Jade Nicholls, fires the starter gun for the hundreds of entrants.
Rider registrations continue to pour in and, with spring slowly making an appearance, the organisers are hoping to beat last year’s thousand strong field. The Bike Ride’s Sharon Scott says: “Don’t forget, there’s a route for everyone and an achievement for all!Our aim of funding defibrillators for the whole area is proving a big draw, so we’re really hoping we can raise the £12,000 we need.”
The whole Event promises to be quite a party.“The Broadway, as ever, will be closed and decked out in international bunting to welcome our French and German Twin town visitors who are bringing quite a fleet of riders,” adds Sharon. “The Orchards, First Central and Nuffield Health, our major sponsors. will be present to see the riders off, as will Town Mayor John Sabin (before setting off on the Ride himself!). Then, to welcome the riders home, the Vivace Choir will be singing their hearts out and, of course, all the Broadway cafes and bars will open early and enter into the international theme.”
Online and postal registration close on the 10th April, but there’s no need for panic as riders can still book in the Orchards Shopping Centre at the Pre-Registration day on Saturday 20th April as well as on the day itself. At the Orchards Event, riders can do all the pre-ride formalities to catch that extra few minutes in bed on the Sunday!
In another first, Aspire Imaging will be the event’s Official Photographers. A local business, they know the area well, so riders should see them at least once (and probably twice) during the ride. Advance notices at the side of the road will tell riders to prepare that energetic smile! All the pictures taken will be available for purchase via the Bike Ride website or direct to www.aspireimaging.co.uk shortly after the event.
“All in all,” says Sharon, “It is going to be a fantastic day and surely the sun must be shining by then!” ENDS
